Alan commenced his tax career in 1990, as a tax advocate, in the then Commissioner for Inland Revenue’s legal department. His tax litigation experience, has prepared him to advise a diverse portfolio of clients, on wide range of tax subjects, with a special emphasis on litigation procedures, and tax efficient structures.

Ettiene Retief

Ettiene Retief is in the SARS Commissioner’s little red phone book! With over a decade of experience consulting to businesses and individuals in South Africa, Ettiene is truly a specialist. His background in the interpretation and application of tax law sets him apart from the rest.

Jackie Arendse

Jackie has an H Dip Tax Law (Wits) and M Comm (Tax) (KZN) and is a Visiting Associate Professor at Wits University. She’s currently in private practice specialising in tax training and consulting, and has helped thousands of South African firms get to grips with their tax challenges. But it doesn’t stop there for this dynamic tax guru.

Jackie is also the former Project Director of Tax at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and now serves on the Board of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners, serving as the Chair for their National Technical Committee. She’s also a member of the Education Committee of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.  With credentials like these, it’s easy to see why she’s the industry doyenne.

Peter Franck

Editor-in-chief of the Practical Vat Loose Leaf Service. Peter is tax consultant in the private sector and a Vat consultant to the East African office of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Peter was integrally involved in the introduction of Vat in South Africa. He worked at SARS for many years and was also a regular speaker at BPS Seminars.
